UPDATING AN HISTORIC BROWNSTONE IN BROOKLYN

We updated this 1800s-era brownstone, giving the space new light, life and charm.  The kitchen needed to be modernized with a gut-renovation, and we replaced floors and doors throughout the house.

The master bath and two powder rooms were re-configured and modernized, plus we prepared the roof for an eventual roof garden with expansive views of Manhattan.

This project was done in collaboration with Chused & Co and Plain & Fancy Cabinetry.  We installed a custom kitchen with Waterfront Kitchen, one of our regular partners.

TIPS FOR REFRESHING AN OLDER HOME

Floating Shelves:
To illuminate shelves with absolutely no glare, recess the lighting into the shelving.  It creates the perfect backlighting.

To remedy old, slanted stairs, level the steps, and recreate a newel post to give the stairs balance and new life.

We imported oak from France for new floors and installed new mahogany doors, while still keeping the vintage feel but everything is new and fresh.  On the doors, we used antique hardware to preserve the original personality of the house.
