East Hampton
The Art of ReconstructionDetail Renovations was introduced to these homeowners by their public adjuster after multiple PEX fitting failures throughout the residence. The resulting flood affected the kitchen, laundry room, guest bedroom and closet, portions of the lower level, and connecting hallways.
Our role went well beyond repairing the visible damage. Working with the homeowners, their public adjuster, and the plumbing contractor, we investigated the home, selectively opened walls and ceilings, and replaced as many vulnerable fittings as possible with minimal disruption.
We preserved the home’s original character wherever we could. Flooring was precisely matched. Cabinetry was salvaged where possible, and pieces that could not be saved were reproduced off-site to replicate the originals, then sprayed on site for a seamless finish. The tray ceiling and fireplace were redesigned for a lighter, more refined presence, and new stone and backsplash selections elevated the kitchen while staying true to the residence. Walls and ceilings were reconstructed, finished, and painted so nothing suggests the home was ever opened.
A major loss is disruptive for any homeowner. Our responsibility is to take that burden away: coordinate the moving pieces, stay involved from start to finish, and keep the process organized and discreet.
At the end of the project, the homeowners reminded us of what they said in our first interview:
“You told us you would make this process as painless as possible. At the end of the job, you did exactly what you promised.”
That is the essence of The Art of Reconstruction.
