Lloyd Harbor, New York (Master Closet)

Lloyd Harbor, NY

Project Overview

We completely remodeled the master closet. While our clients have a very down-to-earth sense of style, dressing is still a personal, thoughtful routine rooted in a very individual sense of order.

Objective

Our intent was to improve the feel of the room so that it reflected the intimate ritual associated with dressing.

Unique Element

The cabinetry is appointed with antiqued nickel handles with leather detailing. New recessed Sconce Lights fill the need for good overall illumination, while a grouping of oversized perforated zinc pendant lights serves three purposes: to bring visual interest to the upper portion of the room, to scale down the space and create a sense of intimacy, and to add light that brings a bit of sparkle and warmth.

Custom Creations

The master closet is a large area with cathedral ceilings. Originally, the walls were lined with mahogany-faced closets with nickel bar hardware pulls. While the area was well lit, the look of the lighting and the casework lacked a residential feel. When reconsidering the space, AJS worked closely with the owners to refine the order of how things were stored. Features such as a three-way mirror, retractable hanger rods (for dry cleaning and garment bags), a cabinet dedicated to handbags, and boot storage were added. At the window, storage cabinets that were never used were replaced by a window seat, creating a niche finished with textured wall covering, plush fabrics, and intimate lighting—a wonderful place for putting on shoes.

In The Details

To upgrade the overall feel of the dressing room, the cabinetry was finished in a gray-stained anigre that’s finish takes its cues from the fieldstone elements found throughout the interior of the house.
